Reiner Knizia's Through the Desert HD App Reviews

Too bad it crashes!

This is a must for anyone who enjoys abstract board games. Or at least it would be if it didnt crash every third game.

Above average

Reasonably good AI.. Occasionally crashes. Graphics are clear enough. Good game, if you like abstracts

Too slow

AI is way too slow. Wont recommend this or be playing it until it speeds up.

Great game, horrible app.

Theres no option to undo a move after youve made it, nor is there a "confirm" step after you make a move. This might not be that big of a problem, but the app doesnt let you zoom in the screen to the point where the hexes are ever big enough, so its real easy to make a wrong move! So you have to drag your camel to where you want it, then "peel back" your finger and peek under it (without taking it off the screen) in order to make sure your "aim" was accurate before dropping your camel! The app also doesnt really seem to support online play, not that Im all that interested without seeing some other fixes, first. Mr. Knizia should let the guys who did the app for Samurai have a crack at this game.

Keep making EUROGAME Apps!

There should be a "takeback" feature and an ai speed option. Other than that I have not had any issues.

Could be great

Give an option to speed up animations. Every other implementation of a board game has this.

addictive!

A very fun IOS adaptation of the board game! This game is easy to learn a hard to master. Suprisingly deep and very addictive!

Pretty good

This app definitely needs an undo feature. Its much too easy to place a camel in an unintended location. The camels should be offset and not directly under your finger when you place them. See Samurai for superior board game implementation.

Great game, so so controls

Love the game, but the controls arent great. Its hard to tell where you are placing the camels, and I cant tell which color camel Im using. Sometimes you press one color but end up with another.

Good game, mediocre UI

This is one of Knizias best games, and the app allows you to play it. UI on iPad has two major flaws: zooming is annoying and unnecessary; and its way too easy to grab the wrong camel color. The result is that the games main placement can be frustrating. The AI impressively addresses the games many opportunities, but in the end isnt hard to beat. Id rate it "medium" at best. With some care and revision, could be a top-rate app.

Fun game... Need a microscope

I have the board game and its pretty fun... But this app has such small font and buttons its nearly impossible.

Fantastic!

My only request is for colorblind mode, please!

Excellent

I always enjoyed Through the Desert, the board game. Unfortunately, many friends find it dry. The opportunity to play against a good AI whenever I want is worth the price alone. The implementation is a perfect replication of the board game. I am colorblind so the game has always given me problems. Even with that, the game is one of my favorites. The iPad version is worth the money.

Needs undo option

Great port but on iPhone its easy to place a camel where you dont really want it so there should be an undo option.

Yah!

Absolutely beautiful!

Board game made video game...

Im always amused by the trend of turning successful board games into video games. While I appreciate the shelf space I save having several games on one iPad, there is something visceral about tangible pieces that one has to set up and move yourself. That said, ItD is a solid port of the classic Knizia game. While the overall game can be simple to learn, the strategy one can apply to it, especially against other human players, makes the game quite complex.

Mediocre graphics with terrible UI spoils the fun

I have nothing against the board game itself, but its badly implemented. It suffers from awful UI that takes away from the experience. The graphics are also poor, making it difficult to visualize the board and quickly determine whats going on.

Solid and easy to learn.

Simple graphics, good AI, no errors.

Fun!

Quick fun game with a decent amount of strategy.

No fun for adults

I didnt like it, it is really a silly game. It didnt delivery much fun, and the graphics are not very good. Maybe for kids...
